{"id":3195,"date":"2025-07-25T09:33:51","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T09:33:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.satecsite.org\/?p=3195"},"modified":"2025-07-28T10:13:03","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T10:13:03","slug":"star-wars-outlaws-2-cancelled-by-ubisoft-claims-insider","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.satecsite.org\/index.php\/2025\/07\/25\/star-wars-outlaws-2-cancelled-by-ubisoft-claims-insider\/","title":{"rendered":"Star Wars Outlaws 2 cancelled by Ubisoft claims insider"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"410\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"article-image wp-image-23748687 lazyload\" alt=\"Star Wars Outlaws key art\" loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.satecsite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/SEI_260064518-5c22.jpg\">\t<\/div><figcaption>Not quite a new hope (Ubisoft)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ubisoft&#8217;s disappointment with the sales of Star Wars Outlaws has led to the cancellation of a sequel, but it&#8217;s Lucasfilm they blame.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/08\/26\/star-wars-outlaws-review-scruffy-looking-nerf-herder-21489953\/\">Star Wars Outlaws<\/a> may have been a useful evolution of Ubisoft&#8217;s usual open world formula, but sales wise it has been far from a success story.<\/p>\n<p>Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/star-wars-outlaws-flopped-because-the-brand-itself-was-in-choppy-waters-ubisoft-ceo-says\">recently highlighted<\/a> how the game had fallen short of sales expectations, where he blamed its failure on the overall Star Wars brand being in &#8216;choppy waters&#8217; when it released last year.<\/p>\n<p>Guillemot&#8217;s comments conveniently ignore the fact that Star Wars Outlaws launched in a pretty buggy state, and with a lofty \u00a369.99 price tag, but whatever the reason for its poor sales, it seems a sequel is now out of the question.<\/p>\n<p>According to insider Tom Henderson, Ubisoft &#8216;recently&#8217; cancelled a sequel to Star Wars Outlaws, which was &#8216;very, very early&#8217; in development.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;[Ubisoft] also recently cancelled Star Wars Outlaws 2 because that was planned and in the works,&#8217; Henderson said on the Insider Gaming podcast (at around the 46:40 mark).<\/p>\n<p>He claimed the project was in the pre-production phase, adding: &#8216;It was very, very early\u2026 but they looked at Outlaws 2 and thought, yeah let&#8217;s not do that.&#8217;<\/p>\n<div class=\"factbox\" data-ico=\"factbox_article\" data-track-module=\"factbox_article\">\n<h2 class=\"factbox-title\">\n\t\t\t\tExpert, exclusive gaming analysis\t\t\t<\/h2>\n<div class=\"factbox-content\">\n<p>Sign up to the <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/newsletters\/game-central\/\"><strong>GameCentral newsletter<\/strong><\/a> for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. The sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order came out two years before Outlaws, but it still <a href=\"https:\/\/gamingbolt.com\/star-wars-jedi-survivor-sales-pacing-strongly-when-compared-to-predecessor-ea\">sold well<\/a> despite releasing after the stink of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, The Book Of Boba Fett, and the third season of The Mandalorian.<\/p>\n<p>2024 wasn&#8217;t a great year for Star Wars either but only a few months later season 2 of <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/andor\/\">Andor<\/a> came out, and Star Wars Battlefront 2 suddenly <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/05\/27\/star-wars-actor-says-series-gotta-give-us-battlefront-3-asap-23259491\/\">shot up the Steam charts<\/a>, so it doesn&#8217;t seem fair to blame the brand alone.<\/p>\n<p>The deciding factor between EA and Ubisoft&#8217;s success may have been very simple: one lets you play as a Jedi and the other does not.
