Marvel Tōkon beta sign-ups aren’t working but there’s a very easy fix

As fans sign up for the Marvel Tōkon beta, a supposed character leak is being dismissed as an AI generated typo.
Fighting game tournament Evo 2025 took place over the weekend and anyone who attended was able to test out Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, the new PlayStation exclusive fighting game in the works at Guilty Gear studio Arc System Works.
If you were hyped by the announcement trailer in June, and feeling mighty jealous that others got to play it early, you’ll be happy to know that a closed PlayStation 5 beta was announced at Evo (there’ll be no PC beta unfortunately) and will arrive in just a month’s time.
Registration is open on the PlayStation website, but some people seemingly aren’t able to register due to an ‘invalid link.’ Fortunately, though there is a workaround for the problem.
How to register for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls closed beta on PS5
Registering for the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls beta is incredibly easy. All you need to do is follow this link and complete a registration form.
This doesn’t automatically guarantee entry to the beta, but it does mean there’s a chance you’ll receive an invitation from Sony via email. So, be sure to keep an eye on your inbox (and junk folder) as the start date approaches.

But what do you do if you click to register and you’re met with the dreaded ‘invalid link’ message? We tried registering ourselves and were told ‘The link has already been used or has expired. You won’t be added as a participant for this beta.’
What this means is that the link Sony’s directing people to isn’t for the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls beta specifically, but the general PlayStation Beta Program.
Sony opened this programme up to PlayStation owners back in March and it basically serves as a catch-all for PlayStation 5 beta tests. So, if you previously signed up for the programme, you’ve already got a shot at participating in the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls.
When is the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls closed beta?
The Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls beta is scheduled to run from Friday, September 5 to Sunday, September 7.
Exact start and end times have not been confirmed but it’s three days long, so you should have plenty of time to get a go.
Who will be playable in the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls closed beta?
While eight characters were announced for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls during its reveal trailer, the beta will only feature six of them:
- Captain America
- Iron Man
- Star-Lord
- Ms Marvel
- Storm
- Doctor Doom
Speaking of characters, word recently spread that Doctor Strange’s inclusion has been leaked, as he was mentioned in the video description for IGN’s upload of the beta announcement.
‘Players can take a dip into the wider Marvel Universe to duke it out in intense fighting battles with Marvel’s biggest heroes including Spider-Man, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Storm, Doctor Doom, and more, in an upcoming closed beta for the game,’ it read.
However, this was clearly a mistake on IGN’s part, since the description implies both Strange and Spider-Man will be playable in the beta. And while the latter is confirmed to be in the game, neither are present in the beta’s announcement trailer.
What’s more, IGN has since updated the video description to remove any mention of Strange and Spider-Man.
As for how this mistake was made, the running theory among fans on Reddit is that the description was AI generated. Although, as one fan points out, Strange could very likely be included in the final roster regardless.
